Vegan in Milan Italy

Hey, my favorite vegans! Guess who’s back from Europe and jetlag as F*CK?

Us!! But I’ll take jet lag any day if it means I get to spend a week frolicking around Italy and the UK, am I right?

So our first stop on our mini-European tour was Milan, Italy. We only stayed there for a day because it was just a little pit stop to Lake Como, but there were definitely some great vegan options.

Because we were traveling with a non-vegan, we didn’t seek out any 100% vegan restaurants, but if you are interested in finding those, you can easily find them online or on Happy Cow! Ok, to the food:

  1. Malpensa Airport in Milan

While I do not recommend this airport (they lost my friggen luggage!! Don’t worry, I got it back, but still), I do have to say they had some baller vegan options. At one little cafe, we found literal VEGAN CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS. I mean, are you kidding me? You can’t even find those in LA. They were so, so yummy and tasted like literal donuts. We also found a certified vegan sesame/dark chocolate bar, which was also delicious. I swear the flavors are better in Europe…

2. Spontini Milano

Some of you out there have probably heard of this place. It is a two-minute walk from the Duomo and is famous on Instagram for its cut-up super cheesy pizza (non-vegan).  My non-vegan friend was dying to try a slice, so we went with her for moral support. Aren’t we great friends?! Anyway, we were surprised to see that they actually had a pizza slice that was specifically labeled vegan, so of course we got it.

We got to watch them make a fresh vegan pie for us from scratch and it was so warm and yummy. The crust tasted like focaccia and the sauce and toppings (capers, olives, and herbs) were super complimentary. A great vegan option and a great place to go with non-vegans! Go Spotini!

3. Vanilla Gelati Italiani

We actually found this place on Happy Cow. It’s a gelato cafe also near the Duomo that has vegan, sugar-free gelato options!! Even though the photos make it seem like the flavors are “vanilla,” that’s just the name of the cafe. The vegan flavors were actually pistachio and hazelnut which are my FAVE flavors.

The gelato was so good and I ordered a side of espresso to make my own affogato. OMGEE. The coffee in Italy is insaneeeeee. I could have had 100 affogatos if my stomach could handle it. Def recommend this combo.  Also, they have vegan cones, you just have to ask for them!

4. Marchesi

This was a cute little cafe we found at the famous Galleria mall. We didn’t choose it so much for the food options than the aesthetics, but yolo. I like pretty things! Sue me!

We were pretty full, so we only got some cokes, fresh strawberries, and the little snacks they gave our table for free. For the vibes, I def recommend it. But I do warn you, those strawberries were surprisingly pricey lmao.

There you go! Let me know if you try any other hot spots!
