Vegan in Airlie Beach, Queensland

Airlie Beach is a bit of a wasteland right now after the cyclone hit BUT if you wanted to go on a sailboat to the Whitsundays, then Airlie beach is a pitstop you must take (legit you can only take the boat to the Whitsundays out of Airlie. Which is why we were there). All my friend and I did in Airlie was eat food and get massages LOL. The boat we took to the Whitsunday Islands was called the SV Whitehaven. I told the chef/crew member I was vegan and he prepared something special for me at every meal so THANKS DUDE!

Anyway, back to Airlie Beach, since we ate most of our meals on the boat, we only went to like three places to eat.

  1. La Tabella Trattoria

This place was SO good and so amazing at accommodating to vegans that we actually went here for lunch AND dinner LOL. Can you tell I have a fear of change?

But actually this place was BALLLLLER AF.

For lunch, I asked if their strawberry smoothie could be made vegan. One of the waitresses legit whipped up one of the best smoothies I’ve ever had in my life. She was like “How is it? I was improvising” and I was like…. THIS IS INCREDIBLE?

Then for lunch, I got the olive plate which came with THE BEST OLIVES I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Like they were soaked in the most amazing olive oil and I’ll dream about them till I die. The sourdough bread was OFF THE CHARTS delicious. And the balsamic and olive oil dip it came with was EQUALLY amazeballs. One of the best olive/bread plates I’ve ever (and will ever) have.

For dinner, I asked for a pasta with tomato sauce (make sure to tell them you are vegan because they will adjust accordingly) and I got one of the pineapple mocktails because even though I’m legal, I still hate the taste of alcohol #sorrynotsorry.

TO BE HONEST, the pasta and mocktail weren’t that great but they also had to modify somethings so I don’t blame them. They tried and that’s all that matters!

2. Sushi Hi

Legit no places were open and I needed something to eat so I went to this sushi place and they were super helpful with the whole vegan thing. I got some avocado rolls, inari, agedashi tofu, and some seaweed salad. Was satisfying but not incredible yummy. But hey, ur girl ain’t complainin

Took the food to go, so sorry not sorry for the jank photos

3. Cafe One3

This weird little cafe is vegan friendly but low-key when you tell them you are vegan, they just say “Okay our chef will make you something”. And like that’s that. Like their vegan option is a surprise LOL. The lady was like so aggressive and mean, I was like ???? BYE???? Also no wifi here so… also BYE????

I asked if there was wifi and she aggressively pointed to a sign that said “no wifi”. Like OKAY lady. And then she was like “Read a book. We have plenty” and pointed to like a table full of books???? Like STFU WOMAN. Like you mad cuz I’m young and relevant? BYE???

I got an orange, apple, carrot juice that was SO DELICIOUS. So refreshing and yummy. And then the actual SURPRISE meal (???) was really good. Confusing but really tasty! Would I come back here? No. Mostly cuz the lady scared me, BUT it was a tasty/confusing breakfast! It had like squash and mushrooms and carrots and was SO yummy. But like the whole surprise meal thing confused the fuck out of me. bnnn

That’s it folk! Hope this helps!
