Vegan at Popbar – Costa Mesa, CA

Have any of you been strolling along the streets in LA or NYC and seen a little storefront called Popbar? Ok, well I have and I never thought to look twice before strolling past it. Basically, Popbar is a gelato popsicle bar where you can pick your flavor of gelato/sorbet popsicle and dip it into a chocolate/caramel sauce and roll it around in a topping, like nuts or sprinkles or coconut.

Although the idea sounds delicious, I never stopped in because I assumed none of the chocolate dips were vegan and the only vegan popsicle options were the sorbet ones… aka the fruit flavored ones #lame. I, on the other hand, wanted something chocolatey and decadent, you know? My fat-ass heart wants what it wants, ok!?

So my sister and I were in Costa Mesa yesterday doing some additional voice recording for a film we did last summer and decided to stop at Seabirds for lunch. On our way to Seabirds, I passed the Popbar and a sudden urge overwhelmed all my senses telling me one thing: I just HAD to have a Popbar. Don’t ask me why.

Anyway, I went in and to my surprise, they had a vegan CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER popsicle option!!!

Oh, and it gets better, honey. Like three of their chocolate dips were COMPLETELY VEGAN (dark, caramel, and mint). So I decided to crazy and get the peanut butter chocolate gelato popsicle, dipped in dark chocolate, and rolled in hazelnut bits.

NUT!!!!!!!! Literally, I nutted. The whole thing together tasted exactly like a Ferrero Rocher and I was brought back to my childhood in an instant. I’m so sorry for underestimating you, Popbar. I think this is now one of my top ten favorite vegan desserts ever. In the wise words of Hailee Steinfeld, “I didn’t know I was starving ’till I tasted you.”
