Vegan at Mauro’s Cafe – Los Angeles, CA

Anyone who’s anyone in LA has heard of Mauro’s Cafe. I’m kidding. But, low-key, it is a very trendy spot in Los Angeles that is located where the old Fred Segal used to be. So if you know,  you know. And now you do.

Anyway, my sister, our friend Ama, and I all went there for lunch the other day. Believe it or not, in my 8 years of living in La La land, this was my first time officially eating here. WILD.

Luckily it’s LA (the vegan capital of the world), so Mauro’s had an entire menu just for vegans. The menu included lots of pasta options, salads, veg platters, and other things I cant currently remember.

My sister got the virgin piña colada and I got a make-your-own juice with cucumber, apple, and mint to start. Both were super delicious and refreshing. Bella was actually obsessed with her drink.

For the meal, as appetizers I got their delicious butter lettuce salad. Disclaimer: it was delicious, but the name of the item was quite literally “delicious butter lettuce salad” LMAO. Bella got the vegan croissant. I loved my salad because I was craving some well-dressed greens and that’s exactly what I got. Bella liked her croissant, but said it tasted a bit like rye bread. She probably wouldn’t get it again. I thought it tasted like a Pillsbury crescent roll. Not great – not terrible. Just mid.

Then for the meal, we got penne arbiatta pasta which was BOMB. The pasta was perfectly cooked and had the perfect amount of spice. Would def get again.

For the grand finale, we were told the owner of the restaurant was vegan so all the gelato flavors (strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla) on the dessert menu were vegan!! I internally cried tears of joy. All the gelato flavors were delicious, but the chocolate was by far the best. Definitely recommend.

So if you’re in town and want a trendy, hip spot with simple, but delicious vegan options, Mauro’s is your guy. Or girl. IDK who Mauro is TBH.

(Also side note, Bella asked one of the waiters out and they went on a date!!)
