Planta Queen NYC Review

I can’t believe I’m saying this but… did I really just find my new favorite vegan restaurant in New York!?!? I think I have.

If you want to enjoy the borderline-spiritual vegan experience my friend, sister, and I had last week, then please – for the love of GAWD – make yourself a reservation at Planta Queen.

Planta Queen is this new all-vegan sushi restaurant (yes, ALL vegan) located in NoMad, Manhattan. And let me tell you something (*cute TikTok “lemme tell you somethin* sound), this place was POPPIN! Dates, families, friends – everyone was in this restaurant. It honestly makes me so happy to see vegan places filled to capacity. Maybe not the best for Covid, but the best for my vegan heart 🙂

The restaurant interior was gorgeously designed and had a wonderful ambiance. The staff was so incredibly friendly – they even gave us a free dish on the house. Below is everything we got and how we felt about it. Spoiler alert: we fell in literal love with every dish.

The Cocktails: My sister and I got the “Sake to Me” drink made with sake. It was SO FREAKIN CUTE. It came in a little cat cup that I wanted to steal. Not to mention, the drink was so sweet and yummy, I could have easily downed three of them in a row. The waitress recommended this and I honestly understand why.

The Sushi: We got the Ahi Watermelon, the crab roll, the Mushroom Bacon Inari, and the Unagi Eggplant (this one was the free dish from the restaurant). EVERYTHING WAS BOMB. Out of the four, my favorites were the Ahi Watermelon and Mushroom Bacon Inari, but they were all so well made and flavored that it felt like we were eating real freaking sushi. C’mon people. Listen to Seaspiracy! Eat this, not that!

The Dishes: We got the Bang Bang Broccoli, The Tuna Crispy Rice, and the Fried Mushroom Bao Buns. The Bang Bang Brocolli was LEGIT CRACK. I cannot explain how delicious it was. The broccoli was so crispy and the sauce was so addictive. I could have eaten ten bowls of it. The Tuna Crispy Rice was also to die for (so much flavor in such a small bite! *that’s what she said*) and the Fried Mushroom Bao Bun was UNREAL. I am a hoe for Bao Buns and was ready to do a striptease for the manager just so I could get some more buns for free.

The Dessert: We got the brownie sundae and matcha cheesecake. Both were good, but I think we preferred the brownie sundae over the cheesecake. I wasn’t in love with the cheesecake texture, but the flavor was great.  I also saw some people getting some cool-colored swirl soft serve, so maybe I’ll try that next time!

So there you have it, ladies and gents and non-binary, this shit slaps. Planta Queen? More like YASSS QUEEN.
