VEGAN AT ABIS JAPANESE RESTAURANT (HIBACHI)- GREENWICH, CT

So how about a throwback thursday or a flashback friday??? Well, the sis and one of our childhood friends Catherine (formally known as Chatty Cathy btw) decided to take a road down memory lane before we all split ways and embarked on our sophomore year of college. So we decided to go to the Hibatchi place we used to go to as kids called Abis. Ahhh, memories….

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know what hibachi is, it’s basically where the chef cooks delicious food in front of you on the stove and lemme tell you something guys, Abis hasn’t aged a day since I last saw it ten years ago. It looked, smelled, and felt exactly the same as it did ten years ago which I thought was adorable. Some things never change with age…(Um, yes I also mean my height **sad face**)

The same old guy still runs the place and was incredibly accommodating with our vegan needs, speaking to the chef before he arrived at the table and letting us know that the salad w/ ginger dressing was not vegan because of the mayo in the dressing and the mushroom soup had beef broth, so we just went without the appetizer.

Chatty Cathy decided to go vegan with us for the afternoon so we all had grilled vegetables and fried rice without the egg….and guys, when I like say the fried rice is amazing, like, I LEGIT mean the fried rice is amazing. Like it is stellar. If you like fried rice, you’ll love this. If you don’t, what planet are you on and what’s the fastest way you can get back to it?

Anyway, the chef cooks and puts on a whole show with an awesome onion tower volcano (Which my inner ten year old self fan-girled over) and fancy knife tricks. Also, they cover the stove in fire which is why I have a photo where it looks like our entire table almost exploded in flames #LOL

Anyway, I highly recommend this place if you used to come here as a kid. They are incredibly kind and accommodating and their food is always on point. I left with a box of takeout and thought it would make a great memoir title for me. Olie Cohen: or in other words, the girl who got take-out from Hibachi. Catchy. K bye chicas. (Enjoy the slightly messed up smiley face below that looks like it came straight outta a horror film)
