What inspired you to go vegan?

E: The documentary “Forks Over Knives” and Freelee’s YouTube videos definitely played the biggest role in my going vegan!

What are some of your favorite vegan restaurants?
E: There are way too many good vegan restaurants in Sydney to name, so my top favourites would have to be Funky Pies in Bondi, Sadhana Kitchen in Enmore and Bodhi in the city.
What are your favorite vegan dishes to make?
E: At home I make a lot of curries like dahl with rice and srircha! I also love making pasta and Mexican-spiced beans with potatoes and avocado.
What are common misconceptions about being vegan?
E: Way too many people think that the lack of B12 in vegan diets is “proof” that humans shouldn’t be entirely plant based, not realising that the only reason there is no B12 in plants is because we lack good quality soil. I also get asked a lot if I feel like my diet lacks variety, but I can eat everything I used to eat as a meat eater… Only it’s a vegan version!
What do you find is the worst part about being vegan?
E: Once upon a time I would’ve said that the worst thing about veganism is that I can’t eat at every restaurant and eat ‘normal’ food with friends and family, but I don’t feel like that’s a problem for me anymore as I mostly surround myself with other vegan’s and vegetarians these days. I seriously can’t think of any bad experiences I have that stems from being a vegan!
What is the best part about being vegan?
E: Knowing that I’m causing minimal harm to the animals and the environment is so rewarding and definitely my favourite thing about being a vegan. The health benefits I have experienced are also great too, like clearer skin and more energy!
What advice to you have for people who want to become vegan?

E: My number 1 tip would be to take it slow. If you go full force into veganism overnight, chances are you’ll probably cave eventually and eat foods containing animal products. I think the best approach is to cut out foods slowly and get used to not having them in your diet. That way when you go fully vegan, most of the foods you are cutting out have been removed from your diet for a while and you won’t miss or crave them as much. Also, don’t be too hard on yourself if you do slip up, especially in the beginning… It happens to even the best of us!

How has your life changed since you’ve become vegan?
E: I think since becoming vegan, the biggest change in my life has been my friendships. Going through such a big lifestyle change allowed me to see who my real friends were, and cut out those who were disrespectful or unsupportive. I’ve also met some of my closest friends since becoming a vegan, most of whom happen to be vegan too, which is great. There’s nothing better than surrounding yourself with people who have similar morals to you, and who like to talk about topics that matter rather than gossip!
What are the top 3 reasons to go vegan?
E: Animals, environment, health!
What are your favorite vegan blogs/instagram/youtube channels?
E: My favourite instagram accounts are @bonnyrebecca @feedingmindbodysoul @fruit4jam and @happyandhealthy96. These are my friends in real life, so maybe I’m a little biased, but the people behind these accounts truly inspire me everyday of my life!
Do you have a blog, instagram, or youtube channel?

E: Yes! My Instagram is @emily_hunt, my blog is http://emilyhuntt.tumblr.com and my YouTube is my full name.
