Vegan in Christchurch, New Zealand

Lol when I told my grandma I was going to Christchurch she was SO happy until I had to break it to her that it wasn’t an actual church and just the name of a place in New Zealand. LOL. Sorry grams.

Would I recommend going out of your way to visit Christchurch? NOPE. Literally not much to do there. Granted, we were in the suburbs and not the city, but if you have time, go to Wellington instead (we wish we would have). BUT. At least they had some good vegan food. So if you’re here and you’re a vegan, I GOTCHU.

1. The Origin

A very Los Angeles type adorable cafe that is vegetarian (or vegan I can’t remember). They have a lunch and breakfast menu that looked SO good but we came too late so we could only get pastries and drinks. WHICH AINT NO PROBLEM.

I got the almond milk hot chocolate, a slice of the brownie chocolate cake, and a banana muffin. Everything was SO scrumptious. Seriously, like scrumptious is the only word that could describe it. Mmmm banana muffins and hot coco. Warms the soul

2. Black Betty Cafe

We came across this cafe randomly when we were SO hungry and wanted lunch, and I’m so happy we did because my lunch was BALLER. Like so random but SO yummy?

They only had like two vegan options. A vegan burrito and a vegan burrito plate thing? (Lol I forgot the name but I ordered it). I also got a soy chai. Legit AMAZEBALLS.  It came with beans, salsa, guac, mushrooms and toasted tortillas. Talk about YUM. So incredibly yummy. I would eat it all over in a heartbeat.

3. Coriander’s Ethnic Indian Restaurant

Thank you to my friend Shayna and her family friends Ashley and Francis for letting us stay at their house for the night and taking us out for Indian food!

The waitress was really helpful when it came to ordering vegan. I got the onion bhaji (i think that’s what they are called) which are like fried onion things? Pretty damn tasty if I do say so. I also got the tarka dal which was yummy but SO DAMN spicy (they were like “Is mild spice okay?” And i was like sure! And IT WAS SO SPICY. Ask for no spice because… they be trippin)

It wasn’t the best Indian food in the world, but it was warm and satisfying and I don’t eat Indian food often so it was cool to try different things.

4. Wholefoods Market and Health Christchurch

I KNOW. I KNOW. But don’t get your hopes up. It’s not actually Whole Foods. It’s just called the same thing. BUT, it’s just as good. It’s a small supermarket with SO many vegan snacks and goodies, which I stocked the HELL up on for our long drive to Franz Josef and Queenstown. Here is what I got.

YES YALL. That’s a whole case of vegan chocolate chip cookies, and two vegan beef jerkies, and sweet chili chips, and matcha mylk and just SO MANY other delicious goodies.

You know how for some people  Louis Vuitton is their weakness? HEALTH SUPERMARKETS ARE MINE #ByeMoney #Farewell

So if y’all are in Christchurch, YA COVERED.
